Not sure if it's carmels or caramels. Either way it requires hours, no exaggeration, hours of stirring to reach soft ball stage. My husband and step-daughter loved them and she asked to make them again. This is one of those recipes that is not wort it to me. Standing and stirring is just annoying. She did at least half of the stirring but was still just too much time.
Homemade soft Pretzels are a close second on the annoyance scale and very messy to put them in the baking soda bath but they're so good that it's worth it to me.
Pretzels = Yes
Caramels = NO
