After two years of experimenting with "things to make with teenagers". I give chocolate dipped pretzels a yay and decorated sugar cookies a big nay. The sugar cookies are messy, sprinkles evveerrywhere, half of the frosting in the mouths of babes, they give up half way through and you have to finish making 789 cookies...blah, blah, blah. I'm tired just thinking about it. Oh and they don't cook to a pleasing shape. The candlesticks and snowmen morph into formless blobs in the oven and they're not particularly tasty. Pretty sure there is a way to fix the formless blob thing but not sure I have the inclination or desire to figure it out. Oh, wait, I am sure, I don't. Also, the tube cookies just aren't good.
Now...chocolate dipped pretzels on the other hand are a big hit. You melt chocolate chips and white chocolate chips in separate bowls (ps. no chocolate in white chocolate, it's candy), buy all the sprinkles at Michael's, place pretzel rods on sheet pans, and wax paper, and away we go. Drizzle, dip, sprinkle, and freeze. You can use red hots and marshmallows, the Kim K. butt made of marshmallows was a huge hit. You can even dye the white chocolate if you want...the options are endless. Everyone likes them and if you can keep them around long enough they freeze at least through the Christmas season.
