My step-daughter had a birthday sleepover last night so we had cake and drinks at the movies and let's just say a lot of sugar! So, I thought, well, I'll make something a little less 'sugar bomb' for breakfast. I decided to make what I have read are Joanna Gaines amazing biscuit recipe that took her a year to develop...and of course bacon! When I got up in the morning I thought that kids really like donuts (not biscuits; adults like biscuits, duh!) So I gave in and bought donuts. They were meh but the biscuits which I made anyway were yuummmeee! They're more work than Bisquick and you have to plan ahead because they require a 30 min chill in the refrigerator but they're pretty good. While they look like bricks they are light and salty and buttery. My husband's eyes got big when he took a bit and said, "These are pretty good," with a half laugh (read: wow, these are amazing!) A big reaction from him. A few notes on the recipe... - I didn't have self-rising flour and wasn't going to buy even more flour after I went a little nuts and bought the giant bag from Costco, so I made my own from a recipe online. Very easy. - If you use parchment paper (which I highly recommend; a box is cheap, lasts a long time, and makes for easier clean up) it is a little bit slippery. In other words, I dropped one biscuits into the over door crease while trying to get the pan out of the oven. Sigh. It was less of a big deal than scraping out the giant cookie cake residue from the day before when it ran over the side of the pizza pan onto the oven floor. Double sign. Hey, if it tastes good in the end, who cares, right? www.yahoo.com/news/joanna-gaines-apos-biscuit-recipe-094618297.html
