Hi everyone! Just to set the record straight I've never actually set the kitchen on fire. The pan including the garlic bread yes, but never the kitchen. Kept the pan, threw the garlic bread while on fire out the front door and the flames went out. (insert unbelievable exasperation and look of shock!)
I love to cook. I love to learn and try new recipes. I want things to taste good and look good and sometimes they do. However, when I try a new recipe from a book or online source I often end up saying, "mine doesn't look like that." "What did I do wrong?"
In real life, I have to adjust the ingredients, use whatever tools I have, and learn to live with substandard results. Well, I'm here to tell you they aren't substandard. Hmpfh. My results are real life. I spill, drop stuff on the ground, go way too fast, forget ingredients (hello, middle age), and am a messy cook.
I have to get dinner on the table for 6 people 5 nights a week, and it's hard. It's fun, and hard. This blog is the journey of real life cooking and baking. The glorious and the failures. This is a blog about what the end product really looks like and tastes like.
Like many of you, I suspect you have some level of insecurity about making things that turn out well and look right.
I hope this blog makes you feel normal and I hope to be able to offer some tips from a real life home cook along the way.
